Known as 'The Musical Whisperer' amongst her clients, Victoria works as a discrete freelance Dramaturg, specialising in musical theatre scripts, offering one to one sessions and full script reports for both Writers, Literary Departments and Producers. She has a particular expertise in working with established writers new to musical theatre. She tailors her approach to each project and client and has worked on Broadway bound commercial projects, with independent Producers, as well as with writers commissioned by the likes of the RSC and The National. She is able to help at any stage of the development process, from working on synopsis to facilitating feedback in the rehearsal room through to notes on previews.
For several years she was the sole Musical Theatre Script Submission reader for The National Theatre, where she went on to lead in designing, facilitating and running their Musical Theatre Writers Group.
Victoria has also read scripts and worked in literary departments for theatres across America including The Vineyard, New York Theatre Workshop and The Northern Stage Theatre, VT.
Victoria designed and lead a Graduate Musical Theatre Writing course at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, which is still running. She was mentor to students on both the MFA Writing programme and the MA Music Theatre Acting programme. She has also worked as a teaching artist for Mousetrap Theatricals and is available to teach and design classes (either stand alone or a course) on Bookwriting, Lyric Writing, Playwrighting, Dramaturgy and creating 'Characters who sing'.
She is currently writing a book provisionally titled 'Making Musicals: Behind the Scenes with a dramaturgy' examining commissioned by Bloomsbury/Methuen (January 2023).
